Meraki Outdoor Testing

We at Anaptyx build out high quality condominium and apartment community wireless networks. Over the last year or so, since Meraki has released units for beta testing we have been migrating over to their hardware for our new installations. Being a Boston based company, we were familiar with the success of their RoofNet project, which gives us faith in their product and it’s ability to handle the extreme hot and cold temperatures we see here in Boston/New Hampshire throughout the winter.

We haven’t used too many outdoor units in installs because we were generally unfamiliar with them. However we are looking to move away from this type of setup and use all Meraki equipment wherever possible. After looking at the product spec sheet we saw it had an IP-65 Environmental rating, giving it a certified operating temperature of 14-122°F (-10–50°C).

We weren’t sure if the unit would actually hold up to these specifications, which may not even be strong enough for New England weather, so before we implemented “mission critical” units we decided to extensively test them ourselves, as we do with all of our equipment before trusting it to be good enough for our customers.

This short report is the story and results of our stress testing over an 8 day period. Please enjoy and let us know if you have any questions.
